The Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mr Gregory So, today (July 31) joined a VIP tour at the RISE conference to meet with start-up entrepreneurs.

RISE is the biggest start-up tech conference in Asia, which provides a place for start-ups in Hong Kong and overseas to congregate and demonstrate their strengths.

During the tour, Mr So had exchanges with entrepreneurs on the challenges and opportunities they encountered in the start-up scene. He also took the opportunity to learn about their business conditions.

Mr So said the Government is very keen to transform the city into a leading global hub for innovation and entrepreneurship so that start-ups can use Hong Kong as a global launchpad.

"We have experienced phenomenal growth in our start-up ecosystem. In the last 36 months, co-working locations and incubation/accelerator programmes have increased from three to over 40, and they are increasingly focused on specific sectors to differentiate their service offerings and uniqueness," Mr So added.

Mr So also visited the booth jointly sponsored by Invest Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Science & Technology Parks Corporation and Cyberport. The booth showcases Hong Kong's start-up ecosystem and the latest developments in various technology clusters.

The two-day RISE conference is being held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre starting today. It has attracted over 5 000 participants with more than half of them coming from overseas.
