Museum of Art to be closed from next Monday
*******************************************

The Hong Kong Museum of Art, after nearly a quarter-century in service, will be closed from next Monday (August 3) for about three years for major renovation work to increase exhibition space and upgrade its facilities.

"The Museum of Art has been well received by members of the public. Since the closure announcement at the end of June, the museum has attracted more than 41 000 visitors in the past month, seeing a significant increase in attendance as compared with the average monthly attendance of around 23 000 this year. The highest daily attendance of 3 800 was recorded on July 29. I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to everyone for their support and encouragement," the Museum Director of the Hong Kong Museum of Art, Miss Eve Tam, said.

She emphasised that the museum will continue to organise a diverse series of programmes and educational activities to engage the community and promote art around the city during the closure period. For details of the activities and the latest news, please check out the museum's website (hk.art.museum) and follow the museum on Instagram (hongkongmuseumofart).

Members of the public should not miss the final two days before the museum's closure to visit its current thematic exhibitions, which include "The Wonders of Bamboo: Chinese Bamboo Carving Donated by Dr Ip Yee", "Donation of Works by Wu Guanzhong 2014", "All Are Guests - Homecoming" and "The Four Gentlemen: A Selection of Flower Paintings from the Hong Kong Museum of Art Collection".
