*******************************************************

To celebrate the 15th anniversary of the Hong Kong Museum of Coastal Defence, a Fun Day will be held this Saturday and Sunday (July 25 and 26) with a variety of free and interesting activities for public enjoyment.

The Fun Day will be held from 2pm to 5pm at the Upper Gallery and Historical Trail of the museum. Main attractions include allowing visitors to use simulators to fly an airplane and pilot a military vessel, offering a close to real-life experience.

During the Fun Day, performances will be held at the Redoubt Courtyard of the museum. A concert entitled "When Classical Music meets Military Relics", to be performed by the Hong Kong Strings, is scheduled for July 25 (Saturday) from 3pm to 3.30pm, while two sessions of drill performance will be held at 2.30pm and 4.30pm on the following day.

Participation in the above activities is on a first-come, first-served basis and is free for holders of a valid admission ticket to the museum or museum pass.

In addition, a series of special programmes will be arranged in August and September including "Our Memory: Art Crossover Military Relics", talk series on "Hong Kong Now and Then: History, Archaeology, Architecture and Military", and "Photo-taking Workshop: My Favourite Moment in MCD - Selfie with Smartphone Photo Workshop".

For details of the Fun Day and special programmes, please visit www.lcsd.gov.hk/CE/Museum/Coastal/en_US/web/mcd/programmes/15th_anniversary.html or call at 2569 1429.

The Hong Kong Museum of Coastal Defence was converted from the Lei Yue Mun Fort, which was originally built by the British in 1887. The fort saw fierce fighting during World War II. After the war it was used as a training ground by the British Army. In 1993, the former Urban Council decided to convert the fort into a museum, which was officially opened to the public on July 25, 2000.
