Appointments to Elderly Commission

     The Government announced today (July 17) the appointment of seven new members and the re-appointment of nine incumbent members to the Elderly Commission. All the appointments will take effect from July 30, 2015 for a term of two years.

     The seven new members of the Elderly Commission are Mr Cheung Leong, Mr Victor Lam Hoi-cheung, Mrs Susan So Chan Wai-hang, Dr Doris Tse Man-wah, Mr Wong Kit-loong, Mr Kenneth Wong Tai-lun and Dr Yeung Ka-ching.

     Mr Cheung Leong is the Executive Director, Charities and Community of the Hong Kong Jockey Club. He is a member of the Advisory Committee on Admission of Quality Migrants and Professionals.

     Mr Victor Lam Hoi-cheung is the General Manager of Forward Winsome Industries Limited. He is a member of the Business Facilitation Advisory Committee and the Standing Committee on Disciplined Services Salaries and Conditions of Service.

     Mrs Susan So Chan Wai-hang is the Managing Director of Yue Wing Cheong Manufactory Limited. She was Chairman of the Board of Directors, Yan Chai Hospital from 2014 to 2015.

     Dr Doris Tse Man-wah is the Hospital Chief Executive of Caritas Medical Centre. She is a physician and a specialist in critical care medicine and palliative medicine.

     Mr Wong Kit-loong is the Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director of the Hong Kong Housing Society. He is a member of the Steering Committee on Qualifications Framework Fund.

     Mr Kenneth Wong Tai-lun is a Partner of Cheng Wong Lam & Partners. He has served as an honorary legal advisor of Pok Oi Hospital and other associations.

     Dr Yeung Ka-ching is the Principal Lecturer of the Department of Social Work and Social Administration of The University of Hong Kong.

     The Elderly Commission Chairman, Professor Alfred Chan Cheung-ming; the Vice-Chairman, Dr Lam Ching-choi; and seven incumbent members, namely Mrs Lilian Chan Lui Ling-yee, Ms Maggie Chan Man-ki, Miss Grace Chan Man-yee, Mr Henry Shie Wai-hung, Dr Tung Sau-ying, Mr Jackson Wong Fan-foung and Mrs Doris Wong Wong Yu-sum, have been re-appointed.

     The Secretary for Labour and Welfare, Mr Matthew Cheung Kin-chung, welcomed the above appointments. He said, "With a rapidly aging population, the Elderly Commission plays an increasingly important role in advising the Government on the policies and initiatives relating to the elderly's well-being.

     "As in the past, we will fully consider the valuable advice of the Elderly Commission in devising policies for our elderly."

     Mr Cheung also thanked the outgoing members, namely Dr Felix Chan Hon-wai, Dr Cheng Kam-chung, Dr Cheung Moon-wah, Dr Alice Chong Ming-lin, Mr Patrick Ma Ching-hang, Mr Timothy Ma Kam-wah and Mr Stephen Yau How-boa, for their sterling contributions to the Elderly Commission.

     The Elderly Commission was established in 1997. Its main task is to provide advice to the Government in the formulation of a comprehensive policy in caring for elders.
