Transcript of remarks by SLW on rehabilitation facilities
*********************************************************

Following is the transcript of remarks by the Secretary for Labour and Welfare, Mr Matthew Cheung Kin-chung, on rehabilitation facilities at the "Love with Care" Harmony Carnival @Tamar today (June 27):

Reporter: Are you confident that... people's livelihood can be passed...

Secretary for Labour and Welfare: I am pretty confident. There are three items on my side of the house. Two relate to rehabilitation centres, one is actually a very major facility in Siu Lam, Tuen Mun. That facility will be Hong Kong's largest integrated rehabilitation services centre, providing on completion 1 150 residential places for three very heavy demand categories. These three categories are severely mentally disabled, moderately mentally disabled and also severely physically disabled. We are also talking about 500 and more day training places as well.  So we are talking about this major centre together with another centre in Kwun Tong of a smaller scale.  They will provide altogether 1 450 residential places for the handicapped and more than 700 day training places.  This will be very important milestone forward and I am sure that the LegCo members will not delay the passage of these proposals.
