The Government announced today (June 18) the appointment of Ir Allen Yeung Tak-bun as the Government Chief Information Officer following an open-cum-in-service recruitment exercise. Ir Yeung will take up the appointment on July 2, 2015.
In welcoming Ir Yeung's appointment, the Secretary for the Civil Service, Mr Paul Tang, said, "Ir Yeung possesses sound professional skills, broad experience and proven management abilities. I have every confidence that Ir Yeung will bring his wealth of knowledge to the work of the Office of the Government Chief Information Officer (OGCIO), and take a proactive role in championing the development of information and communications technology (ICT) and e-government in Hong Kong. I am also confident that the staff of OGCIO will continue to give their best under Ir Yeung's leadership."

Ir Yeung has extensive experience in the ICT field.
Ir Yeung started his career in 1987 in Silicon Valley in the United States, in the capacities of hardware and software engineer and technical marketing manager. In 1995, he moved to Hong Kong to further his career development. He has since then served in several senior management positions for multinational enterprises and Hong Kong listed companies, including Cadence Design Systems, Pemstar and Computime, and successfully established their business footholds in the Mainland of China and the Asia-Pacific region.
In February 2009, Ir Yeung joined the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation and is now the Chief Corporate Development Officer of the Corporation. He is responsible for corporate strategic planning and market research in setting short-term to long-term corporation directions, global and Mainland collaboration in forming strategic partnerships, corporate IT, incubating innovative technology start-up companies, and providing advanced laboratory support facilities for innovation and technology development. In this capacity, he works with government organisations, non-profit organisations, the industry, associations and the investment community locally and internationally to promote technology ecosystem development in Hong Kong.
