The Office of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region in Beijing (Beijing Office) will stage a five-day Hong Kong thematic exhibition entitled "Creative Hong Kong" from tomorrow (June 19) to showcase the strengths of Hong Kong as a city for business, a centre for creativity, a diversified platform for culture and arts, and an environmentally friendly place for ideal living.
The exhibition will be staged at the Hong Kong Pavilion of the Tianjin State of the Art World Fair for Overseas Entrepreneurs in Hall N2 of the Tianjin Meijiang Convention Center. The Beijing Office has collaborated with a noted Hong Kong brand in creating an experience filled with creativity and joy to impress Tianjin visitors.
The Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mr Gregory So, and the Director of the Beijing Office, Ms Gracie Foo, will officiate at the opening of the 2015 Hong Kong Trendy Products Expo, Tianjin and the Tianjin Hong Kong Brand Festival at the Hong Kong Pavilion tomorrow. The "Creative Hong Kong" thematic exhibition will also be unveiled then.
A spokesperson for the Beijing Office said today (June 18), "We have adopted a creative and lively approach in presenting the exhibition by commissioning Chocolate Rain, a noted Hong Kong brand, to design and build the exhibition. The collaboration will also showcase Hong Kong's creative talents and the strength of Hong Kong's creative industry."
The spokesman added, "Hong Kong is renowned for its achievements in creative industries. Creativity extends to the daily lives of Hong Kong people and nourishes the growth of the city. The exhibition aims to create an atmosphere in which Tianjin people can come into direct contact with and experience Hong Kong's creative ambience while enjoying the fun of the exhibition and its related activities."
Occupying an area of 240 square metres, the magical and fun-filled "Creative Hong Kong" exhibition is formed by two uniquely designed gourd-shaped "hulu" houses, each measuring 5.5 metres in height and 6m in diameter. "Hulu" sounds like "fulu" in Putonghua, symbolising richness and blessings in traditional Chinese culture. When visitors enter the "hulu" houses, they will find two giant fabric artworks specially designed to tie in with the themes of the exhibition. Each artwork is 7m long and 2m tall.
In addition, the showground is decorated with 10 human-size figures of the lead characters of Chocolate Rain, Fatina and her friends. These figures display the Hong Kong spirit and reflect how the people of Hong Kong are full of dreams and always striving for creativity and excellence. Visitors are welcome to take pictures with these figures.
To complement the uniquely designed exhibition, interactive sessions will be held throughout the exhibition period to add to the visiting experience. "I Love Hong Kong" workshops will be held daily at 11am and 2pm during the exhibition period. Teenagers and families with children are invited to join in, and participants can opt to create fabric dolls or colour pictures. Places are limited. Interested participants of all ages should not miss the chance to take part.
The Beijing Office has also prepared creative souvenirs, such as plastic folders, card holders, postcards and stickers, for free distribution to exhibition visitors.
The exhibition is one of the highlight events of the "Creative Hong KongĦETianjin" series to promote Hong Kong. The series of events is now being held in Tianjin. It includes a seminar on creative branding, a Hong Kong film week, the thematic exhibition and the Hong Kong Brand and Products Expo organised by the Chinese Manufacturers' Association of Hong Kong. The series of promotional events aims to foster closer economic and cultural exchanges between Hong Kong and Tianjin as well as showcase Hong Kong's creative and enterprising spirit to people in Tianjin.
