Transcript of remarks by Chairman of Legislative Council Commission on security arrangements for LegCo Complex
*********************************************************

The following is issued on behalf of the Legislative Council Secretariat:

Following is the transcript of remarks by Mr Jasper Tsang, Chairman of The Legislative Council Commission, at a media briefing on security arrangements for the Legislative Council Complex at the Legislative Council Complex today (June 16):

The latest risk assessment by the Police indicates that there is a likelihood of the Legislative Council Complex being stormed by radical groups in the next couple of days. At the same time, it has been brought to the attention of our Secretariat that there will be large numbers of people coming from opposing political camps gathering in the precincts of the Complex.

Considering the situation, I have decided to agree to the Police's proposal that we should allow the Police to enter the Complex later today to help ensure the security of the Complex. My two colleagues, ex-officio members of The (Legislative Council) Commission, that is the Chairman and the Deputy Chairman of the House Committee, have concurred. So following our decided procedure, the Secretariat will inform the Police that they can come in and stand by later this evening. Also, the Secretariat will issue the Amber Alert some time later today, not later than midnight. And the corresponding security measures will be enforced.
