SWD refuses licence renewal application of private elderly home in Tai Po
***********************************************************

The Director of Social Welfare (DSW) has decided to refuse the licence renewal application in respect of Tai Po Cambridge Nursing Home Limited (the Home) after carefully examining and considering the representations submitted by the licence holder on June 5 regarding the DSW's intention to refuse the licence renewal application, a spokesman for the Social Welfare Department (SWD) said today (June 16).

The spokesman said that the order to refuse the licence renewal takes immediate effect. The Home has been involved in the SWD's efforts to make arrangements for affected residents to move out of the premises before the order is made.

The spokesman added that the SWD has all along attached great importance to the quality of residential care homes for the elderly (RCHEs). Its Licensing Office of Residential Care Homes for the Elderly will continue to closely monitor the operation of RCHEs to ensure that the interests of elderly residents are protected.
