***************************************************

Presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD), Transcend - Muse Fest HK 2015 will be held from June 27 until July 12. The 16-day festival will present more than 70 fascinating programmes for public enjoyment.

The LCSD held a press briefing today (June 15) at the Hong Kong Museum of Art to introduce the highlight programmes of the festival, including the "Be a Curator" Interactive Journey. What preparatory work is needed when producing a museum exhibition and how should an artwork or a relic be perfectly displayed? The interactive journey will give participants a chance to be a curator and let them find out the secrets behind staging an exhibition. The programme will be held every Saturday and Sunday in the exhibition gallery of the Hong Kong Museum of Art during the festival period. Admission is on a first-come, first-served basis.

Exhibition design is an integral part of museum work. Designers play an important role in presenting exhibits to audiences in exquisite ways. During the "Meet the Museum Designers" session, professional designers from various museums will share with visitors the interesting stories behind producing a Sky Show and mega exhibitions. It will be held on July 4 (Saturday) from 3pm to 5pm in the lobby of the Hong Kong Museum of Art. Admission is limited to 70 persons on a first-come, first-served basis.

Want to know how a Sky Show is produced? What are the secrets of Omnimax? How can the Digital Planetarium Projection System project so many stars? In "Behind-the-scenes Tour of Space Theatre", curators will take participants to tour the main projection facilities of the Hong Kong Space Museum, including the Space Theatre, the computer and audio control rooms and the Omnimax Projector room, where they can gain a better understanding of the screening of various shows. The tour will be held on July 7 (Tuesday) from 7pm to 8.30pm at the Stanley Ho Space Theatre of the Hong Kong Space Museum. The admission quota is 30 and the deadline for applications is June 22.

"Alien Party@Space Museum" is not to be missed. Participants may dress up as aliens and enjoy an outrageous party with Alien Ambassadors while exploring extraterrestrial life in space. The event will be held on July 11 (Saturday) from 8.15pm to 11.45pm at the Hong Kong Space Museum. The application deadline is June 19.

Everyone has family treasures that capture lots of valuable memories and moments. Those treasures should be repaired and preserved when they deteriorate over time. Visitors attending the "Conservation Clinic" will be able to take in their Chinese paintings and calligraphy, archival documents, photographs, silverware and coins and consult specialist conservators from the Conservation Office for free advice on the condition and care of the items. After a 15-minute consultation, visitors will be able to take part in a 30-minute "clinical" practice session under the guidance of conservators. The programme will be held on June 27 (Saturday) and July 5 (Sunday) at the Hong Kong Museum of Art, and on July 11 and 12 (Saturday and Sunday) at the Hong Kong Museum of History. The application deadline is June 18.

Five "Museum HAS Family Workshops" will be held, allowing participants to transcend different spheres of knowledge in art, history and science through drawing historical buildings and re-inventing bamboo structures (history and culture), creative use of materials (art) and exploring light in words and graphics (science).

In addition to the special programmes, exhibitions are being held during Muse Fest HK. They include "The Rise of the Celestial Empire: Consolidation and Cultural Exchange during the Han Dynasty" at the Hong Kong Museum of History, "Western Scientific Instruments of the Qing Court" at the Hong Kong Science Museum and "The Pride of Lingnan: In Commemoration of the 110th Birthday of Chao Shao-an" at the Hong Kong Heritage Museum.
