CEDD awards contract for Liantang/Heung Yuen Wai Boundary Control Point project
**********************************************************

The Civil Engineering and Development Department (CEDD) today (June 12) awarded a contract for construction of a road connecting the Liantang/Heung Yuen Wai Boundary Control Point (BCP) and the proposed Sha Tau Kok Road Interchange. The $6,518-million contract is the last of the four major civil engineering contracts awarded under the BCP project.

The contract mainly comprises the construction of a 4.6 kilometre (km) dual two-lane connecting road covering about 0.6km of at-grade roads, 3.3km of viaducts and a 0.7km tunnel. The works are scheduled to commence this month for completion by the end of 2018.

The BCP project aims to develop a new BCP in Heung Yuen Wai with an 11km dual two-lane connecting road that will link the BCP to Fanling Highway. The BCP will be the seventh land crossing between Shenzhen and Hong Kong. It will provide efficient access to the eastern part of Guangdong and the adjacent provinces, thereby greatly facilitating future regional co-operation and development. The connecting road will also provide convenient access to the local road networks and future developments in the North District (including the Queen's Hill), hence improving the overall transport network in the adjoining areas.
