Appointment status at designated car testing centres can be checked online
************************************************************

A spokesman for the Transport Department today (June 9) said that with the enhancement and linking up of the computer booking systems of the 22 Designated Car Testing Centres (DCTCs), members of the public can now check the appointment status at all the DCTCs in one go so that they can arrange for their annual vehicle examination in a timely manner.

The spokesman noted that after viewing the appointment status at the DCTCs, members of the public can call the DCTC concerned directly to make an appointment using an available time slot for vehicle examination, saving them a lot of time enquiring about appointments.

Meanwhile, under the new computer booking system, no appointment for the same vehicle can be made at other DCTCs unless the scheduled appointment is cancelled. This can prevent invalid and multiple appointments.

Currently, there are 22 DCTCs in Hong Kong, which are responsible for conducting annual examination of private cars aged 6 years or more (calculated from the year of manufacture) and light goods vehicles (not exceeding 1.9 tonnes) aged 1 year or more (calculated from the year of manufacture). Vehicles must pass the annual examination before having their licences renewed.

Members of the public are reminded that the DCTCs only accept appointments for vehicles within four months of the expiry of their licences.
