Transcript of remarks by SLW on licence renewal of private elderly home in Tai Po
***********************************************************

Following is the transcript of remarks by the Secretary for Labour and Welfare, Mr Matthew Cheung Kin-chung, on the licence renewal of a private elderly home in Tai Po after attending the opening ceremony of the Hong Kong International Airport Career Expo 2015 today (June 5):

Reporter: (About the licence renewal application from a private elderly home in Tai Po.)

Secretary for Labour and Welfare: The Social Welfare Department, around lunchtime, received written representations from the operator in relation to the Director of Social Welfare's decision not to renew its licence. So, the Director will take time to consider carefully the representations before making the final decision on the way forward. Meanwhile, the department will ensure all elderly residents in the elderly home are properly looked after and that they have got their resettlement plan. In fact, 37 have already moved out elsewhere. Of the remaining 20, 19 have firm plan to move out and only one is awaiting the relative to come back to Hong Kong to follow up. But, in the meantime, the department has already assigned social workers to look after all elderly citizens on an individual basis to make sure they got emotional counselling and right information.

Reporter: How many will be displaced?

Secretary for Labour and Welfare: No one will be displaced. Of course, 37 have already left. Nineteen got firm plans in hand to move elsewhere. One is awaiting a relative to come back to Hong Kong and we will provide every support for them.
