Following is the transcript of remarks by the Chief Executive, Mr C Y Leung, at a media session in Shenzhen today (May 31):

Reporter: Just now the Beijing officials said whether the political reform succeeds will prove whether lawmakers support "one country, two systems". Are you worried that if the political reform fails, would Beijing change its policy on Hong Kong or take a more active role on Hong Kong affairs, or even as some commentators said, tighten its grip on Hong Kong? Why or why not?

Chief Executive: The Central Authorities, all these years, have been very supportive of the development of democracy in Hong Kong. And the latest example, of course, is the agreement to go forward with the universal suffrage to elect the Chief Executive of Hong Kong in accordance with the provisions of the Basic Law and the NPCSC decisions. So that's point number one. Point number two, the Central Authorities have always abided by the fundamental principle of "one country, two systems", "Hong Kong people ruling Hong Kong" with high degree of autonomy. I believe going forward, whatever the result of the vote in a couple of weeks' time, Beijing will continue to do the same.
