Update on latest MERS situation

     The Centre for Health Protection (CHP) of the Department of Health is today (May 31) closely monitoring two additional cases of Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) reported by Korea.

     According to the health authority of Korea, the two male patients, both aged 35, are respectively an in-patient hospitalised in the same hospital ward to which the first case was admitted, and the son of another female patient who was also hospitalised in the same hospital ward to which the first case was admitted.

     To date, 14 MERS cases have been reported by Korea. In addition, another case was exported from Korea to Mainland China.

     "We will maintain close communication with the World Health Organization and the health authority of Korea. Members of the public and the healthcare sector should heighten vigilance and stay alert to the latest situation," a spokesman for the CHP said.
