Transcript of remarks by SLW on labour dispute case of Cathay Pacific Airways
*******************************************************

Following is the transcript of remarks by the Secretary for Labour and Welfare, Mr Matthew Cheung Kin-chung, on the labour dispute case of Cathay Pacific Airways today (May 22):

Reporter: (On Cathay Pacific Airways' labour dispute.)

Secretary for Labour and Welfare: The Labour Department has managed to persuade the Cathay management to come to the negotiating table and we are awaiting confirmation from the labour union, from the Cathay union, on the meeting itself. So once they've come back, the meeting can go ahead next Wednesday afternoon. I think it's a very important step. All disputes can be settled, in my experience, through dialogue, through negotiation, face-to-face meeting. Once they go back to the negotiation table, it's a very important start. I think we should give them time and space to talk.
