The Government proposes to designate September 3, 2015 (Thursday) on a one-off basis as a special holiday to facilitate community participation in various commemorative activities to mark the 70th anniversary day of the victory of the Chinese people's war of resistance against Japanese aggression.

A government spokesman said today (May 13), "September 3, 2015 is the 70th anniversary day of the victory of the Chinese people's war of resistance against Japanese aggression. The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government will organise various commemorative activities. To facilitate community participation in these activities in remembrance of history, the Government will introduce the Special Holiday (3 September 2015) Bill into the Legislative Council (LegCo). The Bill seeks to designate on a one-off basis September 3, 2015 as an additional General Holiday (GH) and Statutory Holiday (SH)."

The spokesman added that, by designating September 3, 2015 as a GH, all banks, educational establishments, public offices and government departments will not need to open on that day. Also, if that day is designated as an SH under the Employment Ordinance, all employees will be entitled to this additional holiday, and those who have been employed under a continuous contract for three months or more before the SH will be entitled to holiday pay.

The Bill will be published in the Gazette on May 22 and introduced into the LegCo on May 27.

The spokesman noted that the Central People's Government will organise a range of large-scale commemorative activities throughout the Mainland and has also designated September 3, 2015 as a National Holiday.
