The Secretary for Education (SED), Mr Eddie Ng Hak-kim, will leave Hong Kong this afternoon (May 7) for a two-day official visit to Zhuhai. He will call at the Zhuhai Municipal Government and visit two higher education institutions for exchanges, including making a speech at a high table dinner and giving a lecture on his views on the education and competiveness of Hong Kong.
Mr Ng will pay a courtesy call on officials of the Zhuhai Municipal Government to exchange views on education issues of mutual concern, in a bid to deepen co-operation between Hong Kong and Zhuhai in education.
In addition, Mr Ng has accepted the invitation of the United International College, jointly founded by the Beijing Normal University and the Hong Kong Baptist University, to speak on his personal experience and give encouragement to students at a high table dinner. He will also give a lecture on the education policy of Hong Kong and its development direction. Mr Ng will then visit Sun Yat-sen University and tour its various facilities.
While visiting the two higher education institutions, Mr Ng will take the opportunity to have dialogues with students to learn more about their campus life and aspirations.
During Mr Ng's absence from Hong Kong, the Under Secretary for Education, Mr Kevin Yeung, will be the Acting SED.
