Summer Music Workshops to explore children's interest in music
*********************************************************

Organised by the Music Office of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, "Summer Music Workshops - First Music Lessons" will be held from July 9 to August 28. Children are encouraged to explore their interest in music and acquire basic music knowledge during the summer holidays.

The lessons will be conducted in the form of five interactive workshops, in which participants will learn basic music knowledge on music notes, letter names and rhythms, as well as about various Chinese and Western orchestral instruments and basic music theory. Through musical games and interactive activities, the participants will also be able to strengthen their rhythmic sense, listening skills and attentiveness. Children aged 4 to 6 without any previous music training are welcome to apply. Each child has to be accompanied by an adult in class.

The workshops will be conducted in Cantonese at 16 venues with a tuition fee of $220. Application is now open and will close on June 8. A ballot will be drawn if the workshops are oversubscribed. For workshops not fully taken up after the deadline, applications will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.

Those who attend all five workshops will be given a certificate of attendance and invited to join one of the musical instrument demonstration sessions on August 29 to learn more about Chinese music, wind music and string music.

Application forms can be downloaded from the Music Office's website: www.lcsd.gov.hk/en/mo/activities/upcoming/2015_smwfml.html. For enquiries, please call 2158 6466 or 2582 5321.
