Following are the opening remarks by the new Commissioner of Police, Mr Lo Wai-chung, at a meet-the-media session today (May 4):
Good morning. I am much honoured and indeed very proud to be appointed as the new Commissioner of Police and to take over the command of this professional and outstanding Police force of Hong Kong. I thank you all for your trust and support.
I pledge to follow the fine examples of my predecessors to give my best in leading the Police force to ensure Hong Kong remains one of the safest and most stable societies in the world and to continue to provide quality service to the people of Hong Kong.
The rule of law has all along been the cornerstone of the success of Hong Kong. To make that happens, it is most important that the citizens of Hong Kong would continue to support our work to fight crime and to uphold the rule of law. I also very much look forward to working with the community, members of the Force and counterparts from other law enforcement agencies both here and elsewhere in the world in order to contribute to the continue success of the Force and that of Hong Kong. Thank you.
