Pop concert to promote digital inclusion among young people

     Organised by the Office of the Government Chief Information Officer (OGCIO), the Digital Inclusion Let IT Play Concert cum International IT Fest 2015 Closing Ceremony was held at the MacPherson Stadium in Mong Kok today (April 24). The event was aimed at encouraging youngsters to use their information technology (IT) knowledge to help underprivileged groups and promote digital inclusion proactively.

     Addressing the closing ceremony, the Financial Secretary, Mr John C Tsang, said, "IT, like music, has no boundaries. Both IT and music can bring people closer, whereby physical distance is no matter at all. For special needs groups, IT can even help them overcome difficulties in their daily life.

     Mr Tsang said he hoped that with the passion of  youth and Hong Kong's strength in information and communications technology, we can foster a new caring culture to make Hong Kong a socially inclusive and harmonious "smart city".

     During the International IT Fest, the OGCIO launched several online games on digital inclusion.

     At the closing ceremony, over 70 young volunteers were presented with certificates of appreciation to recognise their efforts in promoting digital inclusion.

     In the concert, more than 1,000 young audiences played a fun interactive game with digital inclusion ambassador, Mr Edmond Leung. The concert also featured performances by local singers co-starring with robots.

     Also officiating at today's closing ceremony were the Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mr Gregory So; the Permanent Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development (Communications and Technology), Miss Susie Ho; and the Acting Government Chief Information Officer, Mr Victor Lam.

     The concert brought International IT Fest 2015, which featured over 50 events over the past two weeks, to a joyous close with songs and applause.
