Invest Hong Kong (InvestHK) hosted a seminar in Hefei, Anhui Province, today (April 22), encouraging Anhui enterprises to "go global" and access overseas markets through Hong Kong.

The seminar and CEO luncheon, entitled "Hong Kong - Platform to Go Global", was organised by InvestHK in partnership with the Trade Office of the Economic Affairs Department of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government (CPGLO) in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR). It was supported by the Department of Outward Investment and Economic Cooperation of the Ministry of Commerce.

Supporting organisations included the Bureau of Commerce of Anhui Province, the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade Anhui Committee, the Anhui Federation of Industry and Commerce and the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Shanghai of the HKSAR Government. Associate Director-General of Investment Promotion Mr Francis Ho and the Deputy Director-General of the Economic Affairs Department and Head of the Commerce Office of the CPGLO in the HKSAR, Mr Yang Yi, delivered welcome remarks at the event, with the presence of the Deputy Director-General of the Bureau of Commerce of Anhui Province, Ms Zhu Ning, as the officiating guest.

Commenting on Hong Kong's business advantages and the opportunities it has to offer Anhui companies, Mr Ho said, "Being one of the key cities in the national 'One Belt, One Road' strategy, Hefei is a hub that connects eastern, central and western Mainland China. On the back of its geographic advantages and economic base, Hefei has enjoyed fast economic development in recent years. Hong Kong and Hefei have close economic ties, and Hong Kong is also a key conduit of foreign investment into and out of Hefei. Upon the country's policy of encouraging enterprises to 'go global', the internationalisation of Anhui enterprises has become inevitable. Hong Kong is known for having a business-friendly environment, free flows of capital and information, free trade and a free market economy, a deep pool of international talent and world-class infrastructure, as well as a low and stable tax regime. Against this backdrop, it serves as an ideal testing ground for Mainland companies to 'go global'."

The Head of the Investment Promotion Division of InvestHK in Shanghai Office, Ms Ada Yeung, also gave a presentation during the seminar. She highlighted Hong Kong's business environment, examples of successful Mainland companies that have set up in Hong Kong, and the various free services and forms of assistance that InvestHK can offer to Anhui companies that plan to set up in Hong Kong and "go global".

Other speakers at the seminar included Partner, China Tax & Business Advisory Services of Ernst & Young, Ms Lorraine Cheung; Representative of Eastern China, Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Ltd, Mr Mark Liu; and the General Manager of Huainan Mining Industry International Ltd, Mr Huang Huang. Each spoke about Hong Kong's business advantages in their respective fields and encouraged Anhui enterprises to expand overseas using Hong Kong's facilities and services.
