CS inspects black spots for parallel trading in North District (with photos)

The Chief Secretary for Administration, Mrs Carrie Lam, accompanied by the Acting Secretary for Security, Mr John Lee, and the District Officer (North), Mr Yau Kin-chung, inspected the black spots for parallel trading at Shek Wu Hui in Sheung Shui this afternoon (April 15) and listened to the views of local residents on street and traffic management.

Mrs Lam and Mr Lee received a briefing by the District Officer (North) and representatives of the Police and the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department on street and traffic management problems caused by parallel trading activities in North District. They chatted with shop operators and residents to better understand the impact of parallel trading activities on the local community.

Mrs Lam pointed out that the Central Government has since Monday (April 13) put in place the "one trip per week" Individual Visit Endorsements to replace the "multiple-entry" Individual Visit Endorsements for permanent residents of Shenzhen. The new arrangement aims to effectively tackle the activities of Mainland parallel traders who come to Hong Kong multiple times within one week. At an inter-departmental meeting yesterday (April 14), she also asked departments to step up their law enforcement efforts to combat unlawful actions related to parallel trading at source so as to minimise the nuisance caused to the daily lives of local residents.
