Following is the transcript of remarks made by the Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mr Gregory So, at a media session on the non-renewal of Asia Television Limited's (ATV) domestic free television programme service licence today (April 2):
Reporter: Are you personally sad about the closure of ATV? How confident do you think RTHK can provide another analogue channel?
Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development: Of course, I am sad because a lot of people of my age grew up watching ATV's programmes. Of course, it is good to have more choices for the Hong Kong audience, but we need to follow procedure and the law. This is a very reasonable decision made not to renew the licence of ATV. I would hope that with all these measures we have introduced, together with the additional service provider HKTVE (HK Television Entertainment Company Limited), very quickly we will have more choices for people.
