The Hong Kong Observatory's automatic weather station at Yuen Long Park was opened today (March 20).  The public can access the latest temperature information from the station by various means, including the Observatory's website and Dial-a-Weather service.

The Director of the Hong Kong Observatory, Mr Shun Chi-ming, said, "The Yuen Long Park automatic weather station is located at Yuen Long town centre.  It effectively complements the regional temperature information of the district, further enhancing the Observatory's weather services.  The setting up of the weather station at Yuen Long Park would not have been possible without the support and co-operation of the Yuen Long District Council and the Leisure and Cultural Services Department."

The Chairman of the Yuen Long District Council, Mr Leung Che-cheung, welcomed the installation of the automatic weather station.  "Yuen Long Park is a leisure hotspot in the Yuen Long district.  Many local residents and visitors go there to take part in various recreational activities.  The temperature information from the new weather station is very useful for them to learn about the latest weather conditions in Yuen Long", he said.

The District Officer (Yuen Long), Mr Edward Mak, said he was pleased to see the weather station at Yuen Long Park coming into operation. "We welcome the Observatory's initiative to provide the public living in and outside Yuen Long with more personalised service and more refined weather information by installing a weather station in the heart of the district, in view of the large geographical area of the Yuen Long district", he said.

The Yuen Long Park automatic weather station provides the latest temperature readings round-the-clock. The public can access the information at the Observatory's "Regional Weather in Hong Kong" webpage (www.hko.gov.hk/wxinfo/ts/index.htm) and the mobile version's webpage (m.hko.gov.hk/wxreport/region.htm). They can also call the Observatory's Dial-a-Weather hotline at 187 8200. "MyObservatory", the smartphone weather service application, will also make available the real-time temperature information at Yuen Long Park in its next update.
