Enrolment for 2015 World Book Day Fest begins
*********************************************

The following is issued on behalf of The Standing Committee on Language Education and Research:

The 2015 World Book Day Fest (the Fest), jointly organised by the Standing Committee on Language Education and Research (SCOLAR) and the Education Bureau (EDB), will be held on April 25 (Saturday). Heads of primary and secondary schools, teachers, school librarians, students and their parents are invited to participate in the event.

Themed "Towards a Reading City", the Fest aims to capitalise on the achievements of schools in promoting reading, enhance students' pleasure in reading, and broaden their reading horizons to meet the expectations of life-long learning in the knowledge society.

The Fest will begin with a keynote speech "Challenge and Opportunities to Achieving Quality Language Learning and Teaching of Hong Kong" by Professor Piet Van de Craen, an internationally renowned scholar. This will be followed by sharing sessions conducted by schools, families, government and non-governmental organisations to disseminate their valuable experiences in promoting reading and writing across the city. The event aims to build on the strengths of reading across the curriculum and takes a step further to create synergies between schools, parents and community partners in utilising a wider range of printed and media resources across the city to foster literacy in school and at home, and to further nurture the reading culture in the city.

In addition, primary and secondary students as well as their parents are welcome to participate in various reading-related activities such as "Flashmob Theatre", "Rugby in English", and "Intensive Reading Session". A book exhibition will also be held to exhibit the latest and different types of reading resources with a view to enriching participants' pleasurable experience in reading, fostering their knowledge, thinking and imagination.

The Fest will be held at St. Francis of Assisi's Caritas School. Heads of schools, teachers and school librarians are invited to enrol online through EDB's Training Calendar System (website: tcs.edb.gov.hk; Course ID CGCDI020150891) before April 17. For students and their parents, online enrolment is available at SCOLAR's website (www.language-education.com/eng/index.asp).  Places are on a first-come, first-served basis.
