Hong Kong Flower Show 2015 to open tomorrow at Victoria Park (with photos)
************************************************************

The Hong Kong Flower Show 2015 will be held at Victoria Park from 9am to 9pm daily from tomorrow (March 20) until March 29. This year's flower show features "When Blossoms Dance" as the main theme and oncidium as the theme flower.

More than 350 000 flowers, including 8 000 pots of oncidium, will transform Victoria Park into a colourful wonderland throughout the show period.

Over 200 organisations from 18 countries, namely Australia, Belgium, China, Estonia, France, Germany, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand, Pakistan, the Philippines, Singapore, Spain, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom and the United States will showcase exotic flowers, landscapes and floral art displays.

The Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) will also present a spectacular exhibit entitled "Energetic Hong Kong, a City in Motion". In the display, the lively theme flower oncidium communicates a sense of vitality that echoes the vibrant energy of Hong Kong, and it includes a huge hot air balloon made of dazzling flowers. Colourful oncidium decorates the underside of the balloon, seemingly fueling it with energy for propulsion. Ribbon-like floral paths radiate in different directions, while giant mosaiculture butterflies and dancers in silhouette further enhance the beauty of the display.

Another sea of flowers in an undulating landscape, measuring 33 metres in length and 15m wide, mimics ribbon dancers in motion. A tulip display measuring 12m by 12m in a variety of colours is also strikingly beautiful.

Interactive photo-taking booths provide playful opportunities, while a 3D painting experience zone in the showground also offers fun photo-taking opportunities. The newly launched flower show mobile application (app) has "camera features" that provide further possibilities for enjoyment in addition to providing event information. The app is also enhanced with interactive games and visitors will get the chance to redeem a souvenir while stock lasts.

Other main attractions include a mosaiculture display entitled "Gorgeous Plumes" featuring exotic birds with brilliant plumage; a Brand Hong Kong floral wall made up of colourful plants; another floral wall featuring The 5th Hong Kong Games, and more.

The theme flower oncidium is further exhibited in a special display corner. Commonly known as the "Dancing Lady" owing to its feminine and lively shape, the highly ornamental oncidium comes in a wide array of colours including yellow, magenta, apple green and pink, sometimes with dark brown patterns or blotches.

A rich diversity of educational and recreational fringe activities will also be held for the enjoyment of visitors of all ages, including music and cultural performances, floral art demonstrations, cooking demonstrations, green activities workshops, green stalls, guided visits, recreation programmes and fun games.

Admission tickets for the flower show are available for sale from now until March 29 at LCSD District Leisure Services Offices and leisure venues with Leisure Link services such as sports centres, tennis courts and squash courts (except for holiday camps, water sports centres and Tuen Mun Recreation and Sports Centre). Tickets will also be sold at the entrance to the Victoria Park showground throughout the show period. Octopus cards can also be used to pay for admission.
