Yau Tsim Mong Distance Run 2015 held successfully (with photos)

     The Yau Tsim Mong Distance Run 2015 was held successfully at the West Kowloon Waterfront Promenade today (March 15), attracting over 2 500 participants. The run, one of the events under the "Alliance of Yau Tsim Mong Reinvigoration in Harmony" (the Alliance), aimed to inject new momentum into the community and celebrate the Lunar New Year with members of the public, local organisations and students.

     The run, whose route was along the West Kowloon Cultural District, was divided into three categories ¡V individual, family relay and three-person open relay. There were booth games, cheering zones and inflatable obstacles and performances by students for the participants to enjoy.
 
     Officiating at the starting-gun-firing ceremony were the Secretary for Home Affairs, Mr Tsang Tak-sing; the Chairman of Yau Tsim Mong District Council (YTMDC), Mr Chung Kong-mo; the District Officer (Yau Tsim Mong), Mrs Laura Aron; the Chairperson of the Alliance, Ms Ko Po-ling; the Chairman of Yaumatei and Tsimshatsui Recreation and Sports Association Ltd, Mr Chiu Yu-hei; the Chairman of Mong Kok District Cultural, Recreational and Sports Association, Mr Hau Wing-cheong; the Chairlady of Yau Tsim Mong Federation of Association, Ms Kitty Chiu; the Chairlady of Yau Tsim Mong District School Liaison Committee, Ms Mimi Cheung; the Police District Commander (Yau Tsim), Mr Patrick Kwok; the Police District Commander (Mong Kok), Mr Mark Foster; the District Leisure Manager (Yau Tsim Mong) of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD), Mr Vincent So; and the Director of the Chief Executive Officer's Office of West Kowloon Cultural District Authority (WKCDA), Ms Bonny Wong. Mr Kwok, Mr Foster and Mr Chung also took part in the relay.

     The event was co-organised by the Yau Tsim Mong District Office, the Yaumatei and Tsimshatsui Recreation and Sports Association Ltd and the Mong Kok District Cultural, Recreational and Sports Association, assisted by the Yau Tsim Mong Federation of Association and the Yau Tsim Mong District School Liaison Committee and supported by the YTMDC, the Alliance, the LCSD and the WKCDA.

     The Alliance, formed by leaders from different sectors in Yau Tsim Mong District last December, aims to promote cross-sectoral collaboration to foster care, boost the economy and encourage residents to participate in community events. Since its formation, the Alliance has organised a series of events, including "Sharing Love in Yau Tsim Mong", "Community Partnership Fun Day" and Fa Yuen Street and Tung Choi Street Shopping Festivals. In the coming months, large-scale events such as a singing competition and youth talent show will also be held.
