     Everyone wants a safe and sweet home. What can we do to keep our buildings safe and in good condition? Building Safety Week 2015, which will be held from March 14 to 20 at the Jockey Club Innovation Tower at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, will offer visitors interesting information about building safety.

     Organised by the Buildings Department, the one-week event will feature a wide range of delightful family activities, including informative and innovative exhibitions, games and performances. The event aims to help members of the public learn more about the life cycle of a building, building safety tips and problems arising from defective buildings.

     The highlights of the first day of the event will include the Building Safety Carnival and the opening ceremony of Building Safety Week 2015, which will be held at Chan Sui Kau & Chan Lam Moon Chun Square.

     The fun-packed carnival will run from noon to 5pm on March 14. While visitors can enjoy fun games at booths, performing teams from various organisations and schools will also perform at the carnival. Children will present dance and musical performances and a number of bands will play popular local and Western hits. A group of energetic flash mob dancers will present a dance performance at the opening ceremony in the evening.

     High-tech entertainment fans should not miss the 3D mapping show on building safety which will be shown on the façade of the Stanley Ho Building every 30 minutes from 7.30pm to 9pm on March 14 and 15. Apart from watching the innovative 3D mapping show, the audience will also be invited to participate in large-scale interactive games.

     During the week, there will be a building safety exhibition on the podium floor and the third floor of the Innovation Tower. Exhibits will include:

* risks of unauthorised subdivided flats;
* building models of minor works items;
* augmented reality - a walk through buildings of different periods;
* plastic brick models to show the life cycle of a building;
* free access to view approved building plans on BRAVO; and
* a hologram on what to inspect in the Mandatory Building Inspection Scheme.

     Participants will also be able to visit the Simulation House on the podium floor of the Innovation Tower to "experience" the danger of fire in dilapidated buildings and other potential threats arising from defective buildings and drains.

     Building Safety Week 2015 will also cater for people with a creative spirit. They can join plastic brick models workshops, Fotomo workshops and T-shirt silk screen printing workshops. Seminars tailor-made for the public, students, building professionals, contractors and property management stakeholders will also be held.

     The one-week event will open at 10am and close at 7pm. Admission is free. For the latest updates on the event, please visit the official Facebook fan page of Building Safety Week 2015 (www.facebook.com/BDBSW).
