The Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mr Gregory So, today (February 16) visited Tsuen Wan to learn about the latest developments of the district.

Mr So met with the Chairman of the Tsuen Wan District Council (TWDC), Mr Chan Iu-seng; the Vice Chairman of the TWDC, Mr Chung Wai-ping; and other TWDC members to exchange views on district matters, including tourism development.

Mr So then visited the Yan Chai Hospital (YCH) Community Health and Wellness Centre, which was officially opened on February 2. Redeveloped from two old blocks of YCH, the centre provides one-stop community medical and daytime health-care services for local residents in the Tsuen Wan and Kwai Tsing districts. He also visited the YCH - Hong Kong Baptist University Chinese Medicine Centre for Training and Research (Yan Chai), the YCH Chan Feng Men Ling Integrated Community Development Centre and the YCH Healthy Herbal Packs Centre.

The YCH Healthy Herbal Packs Centre is a social enterprise funded by the Enhancing Self-Reliance Through District Partnership Programme. It offers wholesaling and retailing of herbal packs as well as herbal decocting services. Mr So said he was glad to see that the centre employs on a part-time basis women who were unemployed or were unable to take up full-time jobs because they have to take care of their children at home. The centre not only provides job opportunities for these women, but also assists them to further integrate into the community.

Mr So then went to the Lunar New Year fair at Sha Tsui Road Playground and toured various dry and wet goods stalls to understand the business situation of the traders. He talked with several young people starting their own businesses at the fair and encouraged them to seize the opportunity to accumulate business experience and showcase their creativity.
