The Secretary for the Civil Service (SCS), Mr Paul Tang, presented awards to 81 civil servants today (February 10) for their meritorious achievements. The Chief Executive, Mr C Y Leung, joined them at a cocktail reception to express his appreciation to the award recipients and share their joy.
Extending his warmest congratulations to the awardees from 34 bureaux and departments at the presentation ceremony, Mr Tang thanked them for their contributions to the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government and the community.
He said, "A professional and highly efficient civil service is the cornerstone of effective governance and administration."
Mr Tang extended his heartfelt thanks to colleagues for their efforts. The smooth promulgation and implementation of various Government policies and measures highly rely on their unfailing support and co-operation, he said, adding that he was confident the civil service team will uphold its honest and impartial manner in delivering quality service to the public as well as integrating a harmonious society.
Mr Tang said that the Civil Service Bureau will continue to maintain and enhance the morale, unity and efficiency of the civil service, and encourage bureaux and departments to make full use of the various commendation schemes to award and motivate exemplary performance by civil servants.
The Administration is committed to upholding high standards of performance and conduct in the civil service. To enhance performance management and commendation systems, the SCS' Commendation Scheme was introduced in 2004. Through the award, the SCS, on behalf of the Administration, commends selected civil servants on their consistently outstanding performance. This is the 11th presentation ceremony for the scheme since its introduction. Up to now, more than 800 civil servants have been awarded commendation, including the 81 awardees this year.
