The Social Welfare Department (SWD) announced today (January 29) that the maximum rates of the rent allowance under the Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) Scheme will be adjusted upwards next month (February).

An SWD spokesman said, "With effect from February 1, the maximum rates of the rent allowance under the CSSA Scheme will be adjusted upwards by 6.7 per cent (see Annex) based on the movement of the Consumer Price Index (A) rent index for private housing according to the established mechanism."

As regards the revision of the standard payment rates under the CSSA Scheme, and rates of Old Age Allowance, Old Age Living Allowance, Disability Allowance and the Guangdong Scheme under the Social Security Allowance (SSA) Scheme, the spokesman said details will be announced after the relevant adjustment proposals have been approved by the Legislative Council.

CSSA and SSA recipients who have enquiries may contact their respective social security field units or call the SWD hotline at 2343 2255.
