The North District Office (NDO) and the Tai Po District of the Hong Kong Police Force launched a joint operation under a trial scheme this morning (January 28) to clear illegally parked bicycles on the bridge at Exit B of MTR Sheung Shui Station.
With the assistance of the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department, the Police seized and removed all the bicycles causing obstruction and in contravention of the Summary Offences Ordinance (Cap. 228) at the aforesaid location. The trial scheme proved to be a success.
The NDO had conducted extensive publicity before the operation. Members of the public are encouraged to park their bicycles at the designated parking spaces and be alert to the danger that illegal bicycle parking may pose to cyclists and pedestrians.
The North District Management Committee and members of the North District Council had shown strong support for the scheme to remedy the serious problem of illegal parking of bicycles on the bridge.
Departments will continue to keep in view the situation and consider any necessary follow-up actions.
