******************************************************

The Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mr Gregory So, started his visit programme in Japan today (January 26) and joined the tourism sector to promote Hong Kong as a safe and hospitable tourist destination for Japanese visitors.

Addressing a luncheon organised by the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) in Tokyo, Mr So said that many Japanese holidaymakers and business people make Hong Kong their first choice in planning their trips.

The recent launch of new low-cost carrier flights has further increased the passenger flow between various cities in Japan and Hong Kong, he said, adding that the number of such flights will be increased from the present 66 per week to 86 per week in March.

Mr So said that more would be done to further enhance the Hong Kong-Japan partnership in tourism. The HKTB would also stage various exciting programmes in Hong Kong this year to enhance the experience of visitors.

In the afternoon, Mr So will visit the Tokyo Disney Resort for briefings on the experience of expansions of the theme park.

Before leaving Tokyo tomorrow (January 27), Mr So will pay a courtesy call on the Chinese Ambassador to Japan, Mr Cheng Yonghua, and meet with the State Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan, Mr Yosuke Takagi. He will then depart for Osaka where he will visit Knowledge Capital and have exchanges with Hong Kong people in the Kansai area.
