The Registration and Electoral Office (REO) today (January 25) urged registered electors who have received enquiry letters from the REO requesting them to confirm their registered addresses to respond by the deadline to avoid the loss of registration status and eligibility to vote in the 2015 District Council Election inadvertently.
To tie in with the 2015 District Council Election, the REO has stepped up checking measures for the current registration cycle to maintain the integrity of the voter registration system and enhance the accuracy of the information in the registers of electors.
"The REO has been issuing enquiry letters to electors requesting them to confirm whether the addresses as recorded in the current final registers of electors continue to be their principal residential addresses so as to ensure the accuracy of the information in the registers," a spokesman for the REO said.
"Electors who have received enquiry letters from the REO are requested to respond by the deadline; otherwise, the REO will, in accordance with the relevant electoral law, invoke the statutory inquiry process to omit the registration of relevant electors. If the names of the electors are not included in the final registers of electors to be released in September 2015, they will not be able to vote in the subsequent elections. Hence, electors who do not reply to the REO may lose their eligibility for registration and voting rights," the spokesman said.
"Electors whose residential addresses or other particulars have changed should fulfil their civic responsibility by notifying the REO to update the records," the spokesman added.
In addition, members of the public may log in to the Online Voter Information Enquiry System (www.voterinfo.gov.hk) anytime to check whether they are a registered elector and whether their registered address is still their principal place of residence, as well as their existing constituencies. Electors whose registration particulars remain unchanged do not need to register again.
