The Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office (HKETO) in Singapore, in collaboration with the Hong Kong Trade Development Council and the Hong Kong Tourism Board, presented the premiere of "Kung Fu Jungle" to a Thai audience at Hong Kong Movie Night in Bangkok 2015 today (January 23).

At the reception hosted by the HKETO before the premiere, the Director of the HKETO in Singapore, Mr Fong Ngai, thanked the audience for their support of Hong Kong movies while celebrating with them the New Year.

"Hong Kong has had close ties with Thailand for decades, with strong bonds in terms of trade, tourism and cultural exchanges," he said.

"Thanks to our creative talents and entrepreneurs, we have a wide array of creative cultural activities in Hong Kong catering to different interests and lifestyles," he added.

"The creative industry including film accounts for 4.9 per cent of our GDP, amounting to HK$98 billion, growing at an annual average of 9.4 per cent in the past decade," Mr Fong said.

"The Hong Kong Government therefore sees it crucial to further strengthen the development of the creative industry through a series of measures including overseas studies and internship opportunities for our young creative talents, injecting into the Film Development Fund to support local film production, nurturing young directors and other production talents and promoting film appreciation, as well as promoting Hong Kong movies overseas."

About 290 guests from the government, cultural, business and media sectors attended the screening of the Hong Kong action movie starring Hong Kong actor and martial artist Donnie Yen.
