HKSAR Government officials to attend First Hong Kong/Fujian Co-operation Conference

     The Chief Secretary for Administration, Mrs Carrie Lam, will lead a delegation of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government officials to Fujian from Thursday (January 22) to Saturday (January 24) for the First Hong Kong/Fujian Co-operation Conference to be co-chaired with the Vice-Governor of Fujian Province, Mr Zheng Xiaosong. The delegation will visit Fuzhou, Quanzhou and Xiamen to learn about their latest developments.

     The Chief Executive, Mr C Y Leung, led a delegation to visit Fujian Province in January last year and held a meeting with the Secretary of the CPC Fujian Provincial Committee, Mr You Quan. Both sides agreed to enhance co-operation between Fujian and Hong Kong. Subsequently, the governments of the two places conducted follow-up discussions on the mode and scope of co-operation and agreed to establish the Hong Kong/Fujian Co-operation Conference, which will be led by the Chief Secretary for Administration and the Vice-Governor of Fujian Province responsible for commerce and Hong Kong and Macau affairs respectively.

     The delegation will attend the First Hong Kong/Fujian Co-operation Conference in Fuzhou on January 22. At the Co-operation Conference, Hong Kong and Fujian will discuss ways of enhancing co-operation in economic and trade as well as financial fronts. During the stay, the delegation will meet leaders of Fujian Province, Quanzhou and Xiamen and visit local enterprises there. The delegation will also meet with Hong Kong people living, doing business or studying in Fujian to better understand their lives there.

     Members of the HKSAR Government delegation include the Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs, Mr Raymond Tam; the Permanent Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs, Ms Chang King-yiu; the Under Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mr Godfrey Leung; and the Under Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury, Mr James Lau.

     Members of the delegation will depart Xiamen for Hong Kong in the afternoon of January 24. During their absence, the Secretary for Home Affairs, Mr Tsang Tak-sing, will act as Chief Secretary for Administration and the Under Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs, Mr Lau Kong-wah, will be the Acting Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs.
