The Government announced today (January 16) appointments to the Financial Services Development Council (FSDC).
The Chief Executive has re-appointed Mrs Laura M Cha (Chairman) and 14 incumbent members, and also appointed seven new members for a term of two years from January 17, 2015, to January 16, 2017, both dates inclusive.
The new members are Dr Au King-lun, Ms Bonnie Y Chan, Dato' Cheah Cheng-hye, Mr Mark Dickens, Ms Margaret Fong, Mr Tim Freshwater and Mr Zhang Lei.
With regard to the re-appointment of Mrs Cha as the Chairman of the FSDC, the Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury, Professor K C Chan, said, "Mrs Cha has been the inaugural Chairman of the FSDC since 2013. Under her capable leadership, the FSDC has released a total of 12 reports and successfully staged a number of well-received seminars and events to promote Hong Kong's financial services industry. I trust that she will continue to lead the FSDC to act as a focal point to canvass industry opinions and make proposals on the further development of our financial services industry."
Professor Chan also paid tribute to the seven retiring members, namely Mr Edward Kwan Pak-chung, Mr Fred Lam, Mr Mark McCombe, Mr Alasdair Morrison, Mr William H Strong, Mr Frank Wong Kwong-shing and Mr Levin Zhu, and expressed his gratitude for their contribution to the work of the FSDC.
The FSDC was established in 2013 by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government as a high-level, cross-sectoral advisory body to engage the industry in formulating proposals to promote the further development of Hong Kong's financial services industry and to map out the strategic direction for development. The FSDC has set up five committees, namely the Policy Research Committee, the Mainland Opportunities Committee, the New Business Committee, the Market Development Committee and the Human Capital Committee.
