Police officers issued a total of 638 Fixed Penalty Tickets (FPTs) and 64 summonses to road users violating traffic regulations during the Regional Traffic Day on Hong Kong Island yesterday (January 12).
During the operation, a total of 303 officers from Traffic Hong Kong Island and District Traffic Teams of Eastern, Wan Chai, Central and Western Districts were deployed to enforce traffic regulations at traffic black spots on Hong Kong Island.
A total of 512 FPTs were issued for illegal parking and 126 for other traffic offences.
Three pedestrians and 108 drivers were cautioned for committing minor traffic offences.
Statistics revealed that a total of 2,991 traffic accidents involving casualties occurred on Hong Kong Island in 2014, of which 957 cases with pedestrians injured. Among the traffic accidents with pedestrians injured, 42.5 per cent were attributed to the negligence of pedestrians.
