Traffic arrangements for Christmas on Hong Kong Island

     Police will implement special traffic arrangements and crowd safety management measures in various parts on Hong Kong Island during Christmas to facilitate the public to celebrate the festive season.
     
     The arrangements implemented from December 24 (Wednesday) to December 26 are as follows:
 
A. Lan Kwai Fong  
 
     As a large number of people are expected, a queuing system will be implemented in Lan Kwai Fong. Once the queuing system is implemented, people wishing to enter the area will be required to join the queue and may have to wait an undetermined time to gain access. They are advised to allow adequate time to arrive at their venues.
 
     Members of the public are urged not to bring or discharge aerosol spray in the vicinity as it may be hazardous to people nearby. Parents are advised not to bring small children into the area.
 
     To cope with the congregation of crowd, the following roads will be closed in phases on December 24:
Phase I (from 6pm)
 
1. D'Aguilar Street between Wyndham Street and Wellington Street;
2. Wellington Street between Wyndham Street and D'Aguilar Street; and
3. Lan Kwai Fong, Wing Wah Lane and Wo On Lane.
 
Phase II (from 8pm)
 
1. Road closure in Phase I;
2. On Lan Street;
3. D'Aguilar Street between Queen's Road Central and Wellington Street;
4. Wyndham Street between Glenealy and Queen's Road Central;
5. Stanley Street between D'Aguilar Street and Pottinger Street; and
6. Wellington Street between D'Aguilar Street and Pottinger Street.
 
     After the completion of traffic diversion, crowds will be directed to queue up along Wellington Street, Pottinger Street, Stanley Street, D'Aguilar Street and Queen's Road Central. The whole of D'Aguilar Street will be closed to vehicular traffic.
 
Suspension of on-street parking
 
     All on-street parking spaces on Stanley Street near D'Aguilar Street, Wyndham Street between Arbuthnot Road and D'Aguilar Street, and On Lan Street will be suspended between 5pm on December 24 and 6am on December 25.
 
B. Chater Road Pedestrian Precinct
 
     The following section of roads will be closed to vehicular traffic from 8pm on December 24 to 11.59pm on December 26:
 
1. Chater Road between Pedder Street and Jackson Road; and
2. Ice House Street between Des Voeux Road Central and Connaught Road Central.
 
C. Garden Road  
 
     To facilitate the dispersal of people after a religious gathering in St. Joseph's Church on Garden Road at sometime between 12.01am and 1am on December 25, the outer lane of Garden Road between Kennedy Road and Lady May Path will be coned off for pedestrians.
 
D. Victoria Park
 
a) Pedestrianisation
 
     The following roads will be pedestrianised from 4pm to midnight on December 24, and from noon to midnight on December 25 and 26:
1. Lockhart Road east of Cannon Street;
2. East Point Road; and
3. Great George Street west of Paterson Street.
 
b) Road closure and traffic diversion
 
     The following traffic arrangements may be implemented to facilitate crowd movement in the vicinity of Causeway Bay from 6pm onwards on December 24, 25 and 26:
 
1. Northbound Gloucester Road service road between Kingston Street and the U-turn slip road of southbound Gloucester Road service road will be closed;
2. Southbound Gloucester Road between Causeway Road and the ramp leading from Victoria Park Road flyover will be closed;
3. Sugar Street will be closed;
4. Traffic along Victoria Park Road flyover will be diverted to westbound Gloucester Road;
5. Traffic along eastbound Yee Wo Street will not be allowed to enter Sugar Street;
6. Northbound Gloucester Road between Causeway Road and Kingston Street will be closed, except for northbound traffic from Tai Hang Road flyover;
7. Great George Street will be closed;
8. Paterson Street between Kingston Street and Great George Street will be closed;
9. Westbound Kingston Street between northbound Gloucester Road and Paterson Street will be closed;
10. Traffic along southbound Paterson Street will be diverted to eastbound Kingston Street;
11. Traffic along southbound Cleveland Street will be diverted to eastbound Kingston Street; and
12. The whole Paterson Street, Kingston Street and Cleveland Street will be closed in short notice when necessary.
 
c) Suspension of car parks
 
     Parking spaces of Hing Fat Street Public Car Park will be suspended from 10am to 11.59pm daily until January 6, 2015, except 10 parking spaces, disabled parking spaces, and some of the motorcycle parking spaces. Vehicles bearing the authorisation of the organiser of the Hong Kong Brands and Products Expo will be allowed to enter this car park for loading and unloading purpose.
 
     Vehicles will not be allowed to enter or leave public car parks at Great George Street and the Park Lane Hotel during the road closure period.
 
     Any vehicle found illegally parked within the precincts mentioned above may be towed without prior warning or may be subject to multiple ticketing.
 
     Actual implementation of the traffic arrangements will be made depending on traffic conditions in the area. Police appeal to members of the public to exercise patience and to follow Police instructions at scene.
