SCED speaks to media
********************

Following is the transcript of remarks made by the Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mr Gregory So, at a media session after attending the Disney ImagiNations Hong Kong Award Ceremony today (December 18):

Reporter: About the situation of ATV, will the Government be able to step in and help those whose wages haven't been paid?

Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development: We are very concerned about the situation, particularly the staff not yet been paid for the month of November. This has happened before so we are very concerned. We are approaching this from two angles. One is from the labour angle and my colleagues in the Labour Department are providing the necessary assistance to the employees concerned. That's from one angle. As far as we are concerned, it is about the broadcasting angle, and that we have the rule of law, so according to the law, ATV must comply with the provisions of the Broadcasting Ordinance as well as the licence conditions. That we are concerned from the other perspective. But from both perspectives, we are concerned about the employees' welfare as well as the citizens receiving the services from ATV in accordance with the licensing conditions. Thank you.
