Heritage Museum to showcase exceptional posters from around the world (with photos)

     The Hong Kong International Poster Triennial - a key design event that takes place in Hong Kong every three years - will be held at the Hong Kong Heritage Museum from tomorrow (December 6) to March 2 next year. With "Vision" as this year's theme, the exhibition will feature more than 200 entries from around the world as well as masterpieces contributed by the five judges, presenting diverse and unique styles of design from a variety of cultures.

     The opening and prize presentation ceremony for the "Vision - Hong Kong International Poster Triennial 2014" exhibition was held today (December 5). Officiating guests included the Under Secretary for Home Affairs, Ms Florence Hui; representative of the Hong Kong Designers Association Mr David Lo; the Chairman of the Art Museum Advisory Panel, Mr Vincent Lo; the Director of Leisure and Cultural Services, Ms Michelle Li; and the Museum Director of the Hong Kong Heritage Museum, Ms Belinda Wong.

     Speaking at the opening ceremony, Ms Hui said that the Poster Triennial, jointly presented by the Hong Kong Heritage Museum and the Hong Kong Designers Association, had reached its fifth edition. She hoped that the event, which comprises a competition, an exhibition and a seminar, will provide a quality and professional platform for international exchanges and bear testimony to the progress of poster design around the world.

     She stated that the Government attaches great importance to nurturing creativity, and that hosting the Hong Kong International Poster Triennial helps promote the development of local creative industry.

     Ms Hui also said that the Hong Kong Poster Triennial has garnered enormous support and recognition from the industry and has now grown to a scale on a par with famous international poster exhibitions held in other world cities.

     There were four categories in this year's competition, namely Ideology, Promotion of Cultural Events, Commercial and Advertising, and Thematic - "Blind Spot". In addition to the Gold, Silver and Bronze Awards in the four categories, there were also five Judges Awards to accord recognition to outstanding designs.

     The competition attracted more than 1 500 entries from over 500 designers, groups and companies from 32 countries and regions covering a wide range of issues on the environment, politics and culture.

     A total of 222 shortlisted entries selected by a professional judging panel and 50 representative works designed and donated by the five judges will be featured in the exhibition. The professional judging panel is composed of internationally renowned designers, namely Dr Jianping He, Ms Luba Lukova, Mr Ralph Schraivogel, Mr John Warwicker and Mr Masayoshi Kodaira. Their donations will become part of the collection of the Hong Kong Heritage Museum.
