The following is issued on behalf of the Committee on the Promotion of Civic Education:

A free 2015 desktop civic education calendar produced by the Committee on the Promotion of Civic Education (CPCE) will be available for collection at various locations from this Friday (December 5).

Every year the CPCE distributes desktop calendars with the aim of promoting civic education. "Respect and inclusiveness", "Responsibility" and "Love" have again been adopted as the main themes for the 2015 civic education calendar. Different topics are also used each month to encourage people to take action and turn positive goals into practice. For example, the topic for January is "To determine your own attitude towards life", reminding us to set targets for the year and to be responsible for our own life.

The calendar's illustrations have been designed by local brand designer HosannArt. Three designers have illustrated different civic values using rich images of childlike innocence and sincerity. It is hoped that the public will appreciate the world in a graceful way, in keeping with the characters created for the calendar.

A representative of HosannArt, Mr Ken Choi, said that their creative vision is in line with the values of the calendar promotion. The characters in the illustrations are open-eyed and innocent, and reflect the aim that we should pay more attention to the environment and things around us. It is hoped that a feeling of love and care will then be created, encouraging us to care about people in need, said Mr Choi.

Mr Choi said he believed that with love, respect and inclusiveness could also be achieved. The chosen topic for March is "To see the world through the eyes of others", in which the characters observe their surroundings through the eyes of different animals. This reminds us to put ourselves in others' shoes and to look at things from multiple perspectives, as well as to respect the views of others.

The calendar is available on a first-come, first-served basis at Home Affairs Department Public Enquiry Service Centres, public libraries, town halls, Hong Kong City Hall, Hong Kong Cultural Centre, Hong Kong Museum of History and the Civic Education Resource Centre on 7/F, Youth Square, 238 Chai Wan Road, Chai Wan.

An electronic version of the calendar will also be available on the CPCE website (www.cpce.gov.hk/calendar2015) for downloading from Friday.
