TAC welcomes Government's plan to commence Public Transport Strategy Study
************************************************************

Members of the Transport Advisory Committee (TAC) were briefed by the Government today (November 25) on the work plan for the Public Transport Strategy Study (PTSS).

Members noted that, in tandem with the further expansion of heavy rail, the Government will commence the PTSS to comprehensively and systemically examine the respective roles and positioning of public transport services other than heavy rail. The study will also look into some important topical issues of the public transport sectors in detail, as well as examine how to enhance the complementarity amongst the various public transport services. This is to ensure that the public can enjoy efficient services with reasonable modal choices on one hand while the public transport operators can enjoy sustainability.

The TAC Chairman, Mr Larry Kwok, said, "We welcome the Government's plan to commence the PTSS. Public transport services are closely related to the daily life of the public. We trust that this study will help draw up strategies conducive to the sustainable and healthy development of the public transport services, which will enhance the present strategic arrangements of the public transport system."
