Appointment of Hong Kong, China's representatives to ABAC

     The Government today (November 21) announced that the Chief Executive had appointed Mr Anthony Nightingale, Dr Allan Zeman and Mr He Guangbei as Hong Kong, China's representatives, and Mr Douglas Woo as alternate representative, to the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Business Advisory Council (ABAC).

     Mr Nightingale and Mr Woo were reappointed. New appointees Dr Zeman and Mr He will replace outgoing representatives Mr Vincent Lo and Mr Richard Li.

     "We are grateful to Mr Nightingale, Dr Zeman, Mr He and Mr Woo for agreeing to represent Hong Kong, China in ABAC. I am sure the wealth of their business experience will inject further impetus into the work of ABAC," the Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mr Gregory So, said.

     Mr So also expressed deep appreciation for the wise counsel and significant contributions by Mr Li and Mr Lo during their tenure.

     ABAC was established in 1996 as a permanent business advisory body to provide advice to APEC on business sector priorities. Hong Kong, China has appointed three representatives and two alternate representatives to ABAC. Mr Adrian Cheng is the other alternate representative, who was appointed last year and whose term has not yet expired.

     Mr Anthony Nightingale is the Director of Jardine Matheson Holdings Limited.

     Dr Allan Zeman is the Chairman of Lan Kwai Fong Group.

     Mr He Guangbei is the Vice Chairman and Chief Executive of Bank of China (Hong Kong) Limited.

     Mr Douglas Woo is the Chairman and Managing Director of Wheelock and Company Limited.

     Mr Adrian Cheng is the Executive Director and Joint General Manager of New World Development Company Limited.

     Mr Richard Li is the Chairman and Chief Executive of Pacific Century Group.

     Mr Vincent Lo is the Chairman of Shui On Group.
