*************************************

The Chief Secretary for Administration, Mrs Carrie Lam, visited the Central Mail Centre of Hongkong Post in Kowloon Bay this afternoon (November 13) to gain a deeper understanding of the department's work.

Mrs Lam started the visit by receiving a briefing from the Postmaster General, Mrs Jessie Ting, and the directorate staff on the department's operation and future development. She was told that operating as a trading fund, Hongkong Post has been pursuing various measures to generate revenue and control costs with a view to providing quality and affordable postal and related services.

Mrs Lam then toured various operation units in the Central Mail Centre to learn more about the department's daily operation. She received an introduction from departmental staff on the work of the Bulk Mail Acceptance Counter under the Retail Business Division and the aviation security procedures for bulk airmail. This was followed by a visit to the Mail Processing Division, where Mrs Lam learnt about the workflow for mail sorting and various automated mail processing systems. She noted that the Hongkong Post has further enhanced its operational efficiency through utilising information technology and advanced equipment, as well as streamlining workflow and work sharing with mailers. Environmentally friendly architectural designs were incorporated in the Central Mail Centre to enhance energy efficiency and provide a better working environment for staff members at the same time.

During the visit, Mrs Lam chatted with front-line staff of the department and commended them for delivering services in a professional manner. Recognising Hongkong Post for exploring diverse services and its commitment to serving the Hong Kong community through "Linking People and Delivering Business", she encouraged all Hongkong Post staff to continue delivering quality, efficient and professional postal services to the public.
