Tokyo Chuo Auction announced today (November 3) the official launch of its first overseas sales location in Hong Kong, which has been set up to leverage the city's sophisticated art auction market and expand the auction house's regional reach.

Tokyo Chuo Hong Kong will host a debut art auction later this month featuring 220 Chinese antique pieces, said the founder of Tokyo Chuo Auction, Mr Ando Shokei. Tokyo Chuo Auction is also committed to fostering art and cultural exchanges between Japan and Mainland China.

"As one of the three most important auction centres in the world, Hong Kong plays a pivotal role in art transactions. It is home to many serious art collectors and professionals with connections to the global art scene. Tokyo Chuo Auction is pleased to expand its business to the city and make use of its advantages to expand our business in Asia," said Mr Ando.

"With its geographic and historical advantages, Hong Kong presents a great opportunity for us to engage international collectors. Tokyo Chuo Auction believes this strategic move should be promising and propel the growth of the company. In future, the company will invest more resources into this international cultural hub to promote the appreciation of Chinese fine art," he added.

Associate Director-General of Investment Promotion, Mr Andrew Davis, welcomed Tokyo Chuo Auction opening its first overseas sales location in Hong Kong. "Hong Kong has a thriving art scene and is attracting a growing number of overseas auction houses. Together with the access to the huge number of high net-worth individuals in the Asia-Pacific region, Hong Kong is the best place for overseas auction houses to set up and from which to expand their business in the region." said Mr Davis.
