HKMA joins SEACEN

The following is issued on behalf of the Hong Kong Monetary Authority:

     The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) announced today (October 31) that it has been admitted as a member of The South-East Asian Central Banks (SEACEN) Centre.

     SEACEN is a grouping of 20 central banks and monetary authorities in the Asia-Pacific region with a focus on research and training. It aims to facilitate cooperation and promote a better understanding of the financial, monetary, banking and economic development matters which are of interest to its members and to the region as a whole.

     The Chief Executive of the HKMA, Mr Norman Chan, said, "SEACEN has been an important learning and research centre for central banks and monetary authorities in the Asia-Pacific region. By joining SEACEN, the HKMA hopes to further strengthen ties with its members particularly on research and training, thereby contributing to financial and monetary stability in Hong Kong and the region."

     HKMA's membership with SEACEN takes effect from November 1, 2014.
