Regarding the remarks made by the Chief Executive, Mr C Y Leung, at the media session today (October 25), the Chief Executive's Office supplements as follows:
"When commenting on the design of the election system today, the Chief Executive aimed to point out that both the past Election Committee and the future Nominating Committee have to achieve balanced representation as required by the Basic Law so as to reflect the social functions of different sectors in the society. The allocation of seats in the Committee is not determined by population or economic value.
All along, the Chief Executive and the SAR Government have placed great importance to sports development in Hong Kong as well as the contributions by the sports sector. They fully supported the promotion of sports in three directions: sports for the whole community, cultivating elite athletes and making Hong Kong the place for major sports events."
