District Court Equal Opportunities (Amendment) Rules 2014 effective on November 1

The following is issued on behalf of the Judiciary:

The District Court Equal Opportunities (Amendment) Rules 2014 will come into operation on November 1 to streamline the adjudication of Equal Opportunities (EO) proceedings in the District Court.

To provide for the details of the relevant court process under the streamlined procedures for EO claims, the Judiciary has issued a new Practice Direction (PD) "PDSL 8 íV The Equal Opportunities List". Consequential textual amendments are also being made to the Practice Direction on Mediation (PD 31). The new PD and the updated PD 31 will also take effect on November 1.

"The changes seek to provide more flexibility for parties to EO proceedings. The procedures will also be less technical and easier to follow. We hope that this will help expedite the adjudication of EO claims, resulting in savings in time and costs for the parties concerned", a spokesman for the Judiciary said.

The PDs are available at the Judiciary website:
